About p25.dev

Pragmatic email infrastructure

My name is Raphael Sprenger. I’ve spent the better part of the last decade deep in the "plumbing" of the internet, specifically, email infrastructure.

The name p25.dev is a nod to Port 25, the standard for SMTP. I started this project because I believe that even as email becomes increasingly centralized, there is still a massive need for lean, reliable, and privacy-conscious tools for those who prefer to manage their own systems.

From Enterprise to p25.dev

My background is in designing systems where reliability has a top priority. This includes implementing email infrastructure for DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung (German Air Traffic Control) and my current work consulting for one of the world's largest software companies on a global, large-scale transactional emailing system.

I’ve taken the lessons learned from those high-volume environments handling millions of messages and complex routing, and applied them to p25.dev. The goal isn't to build a service for massive scale, but the most dependable one for our users.

Our Approach

With this product, I am following an engineering-first pattern. All product decisions are rooted in my core philosophy:

  • Focus on Utility: No-nonsense relay, backup and monitoring tools that do exactly what they say.
  • Data Minimization: We collect only the absolute minimum PII required to run the service.
  • Developer Experience: Features are built for tinkerers, admins and self-hosters.

If you are looking for a service built by someone who understands the nuances of SMTP and respects the self-hosting community, p25.dev is built for you.
